NYU/ASCAP Film Scoring Workshop

Hello all!

Been a while since I have posted. I wanted to share an experience I had in May. I was among 19 international composers chosen to participate in the NYU/ASCAP Film Scoring Workshop and spent 10 days in an intensive learning situation where I had to pick a clip to score, write the music, create a mock-up and then record the real thing with a chamber orchestra on the penultimate day of the workshop. It had been a while since I had participated in a learning situation with faculty and critiques and well what can I say: “I loved it”. Among the faculty were the NYU Film Scoring professors including program director Ron Sadoff, guest composers Bruce Broughton (Silverado, Rescuers Down Under) and  Mark Snow (Ghost Whisperer/X-Files). I chose to compose music for the cold opening of ‘Serenity’, the Joss Whedon Sci-Fi Film following the ill-fated but fantastic FOX TV-show entitled ‘Firefly’. Here is the Clip and some pictures from the event.
